Microsoft Flight Simulator X was officially announced on January 5th, 2006, on the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2006. A Microsoft representative gave a short speech about the Flight Simulator series and the efforts that are being put into the development of the FlightSim X. As for the release date, they expect the new simulator to be on the stores by Q4 2006.

After the speech, we finally see the first Flight Simulator X preview video: the representative takes-off using an xBox controller and shows us some exciting new features, such as reflective textures, flocks of brids flying around the island and amazing terrain textures / mesh.
